how to convert a .toast to an .iso file on windows
After repairing my new powerbook G4, i had to reinstall Mac OS X Tiger on it. I could have installed Leopard, but i just feel Leopard is just too new to be good, while tiger has been there for a while and is very stable and real-life proofed.
Problem is: i had no installation CD whatsoever. So i looked for a torrent and after a few tries, i finally found a toast image.
Yet that’s a 2+gigs image, while the powerbook optical combo does not allow for DVD burning, so i looked after a way to burn it on my good old Acer running Windows XP.
So without further ado, here is..
how to convert a .toast image file into a working .iso file
.
- install Dameon Tools
- create one virtual drive
- mount the .toast file in the virtual drive
- install isobuster, select the virtual drive
- right-click the session of the virtual drive and choose “extract raw but convert to user data”. Pick the destination
- when the convertion is done, simply rename the created file to .iso, and use a tool such as the free imgBurn to burn it onto a DVD.
There, you’re done! You can now use that created DVD on your mac, although the .toast file was downloaded on your PC.
Any questions?

Yea, I have a similar problem. I downloaded 10.3, extracted raw and converted to user data, this creates a .tao file. When I rename the file to iso, no program recognises the iso as an iso. Is this correct, and can I safely burn my 4 cd’s, or should I retry?
a .tao file? That’s weird. normally isobuster should have created a .cdr or a .iso file.
anyway, try mounting the created image in daemon tool, it should be able to at least show you the directory of files, even though they are mac. if it successfully do so, then i’d bet you’re safe to proceed with burning your cd’s.
nope, doesn’t show. What version of isobuster & daemon do you use?
i used IsoBuster 2.3.0.1 and DAEMON Tools Lite V. 4.12.2
Hi I’ve managed to install IsoBuster and deamontools. I mounted the .toast image to deamontools and started isobuster.
Isobuster automaticley selected the virtual drive and on the left side you can first see DVD then Session1 then Track 1 and Then the filename of my image. When I right Click on the last part (the filename) the ‘extract raw but convert to user data’ option is visible but not clickable…. What have I done wrong??

i had the same issue, but going through the arborescence of Session / track, i tried on each (session, track) and one of them gave me the option enabled. I did it and it worked.
Been scouring the net for ages for this so thanks! Only problem is that I have the same problem as the guy above. I click on DVD, Session, Track and and simply can’t get the the ‘extract raw but convert to user data’ option selectable! Anything I’ve done wrong?
Thanks.
strange. Are you sure you tried right-clicking every track/ session row?
Also make sure you use a recent version of isobuster…
Right clicking everything allowed to me! A bit frustrating to say the least! It recognises the disc, opens the full tree including the contents. No joy! Using ISOBuster 2.3
THANKS MAN IT WORKED GR8 BUT THE ONLY THING IS THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE A CURRENT VERSION OF ISO BUSTER WHICH YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT FORM TORRENT AND WHEN YOU RIGHT CLICK THE SESSION OF THE VIRTUAL DRIVE YOU HAVE TO CHOOSE EXTRACT USER DATA TO ISO ,WMA ….. THEN SAVE IT IN A FOLDER THAT IS IT .
Hi,
All of you may try “DVD Decrypter” or “ImgBurn” on windows to make an iso copy. There are mode option available, that hopefully should work like a breeze and make an exact copy of the drive as daemon tools mounts it.
Hope this has been helpful.
can you believe it, it works
so many google searches with people saying: it’s a mac file, won’t work on pc!
xtract raw but convert to user data
